Below is a list of Monroe County news publishers, with brief descriptions of their formats and coverage areas. This resource is intended to help residents find local news sources that best meet their interests and needs.

Newspapers

Herald-Times
Format: Print Newspaper, Online
Coverage: Local news, sports, business, education, arts, and community events. Print editions available Monday-Saturday.

Indiana Daily Student
Format: Print & Online
Coverage: an Indiana University student publication covering news, student life, and university-related topics, as well as community news. For 2026, seven special editions are printed each semester.

Radio

WFHB Community Radio (91.3 FM)
Format: Radio, Online, & Streaming
Coverage: A volunteer-powered community radio station that includes local news broadcasts, public affairs, arts, culture, music, and community-driven stories.

WFIU Public Radio (103.7 FM)
Format: Radio, Online Streaming, & Podcasts
Coverage: An NPR-affiliate that produces local news, local arts and music programming, and analysis with a focus on southern Indiana.

Television

WTIU Public Television
Format: TV & Online Streaming
Coverage: A PBS-affiliate that produces daily and weekly local news broadcasts, as well as local and regional documentaries, and special coverage of events and issues.

Community Access Television Services (CATS)
Format: TV & Online Streaming.
Coverage: A department of the Monroe County Public Library that broadcasts city and county government meetings and community events across several cable channels and YouTube. 

Online-Only News and Blogs

B Square Bulletin
Format: Online
Coverage: Local government, policy, city council, and civic issues in Bloomington and Monroe County.

Bloomingtonian
Format: Online
Coverage: Breaking news, crime, public safety, community events, and visual journalism.

Indiana Public Media
Format: Online
Coverage: Comprehensive coverage combining news, arts, culture, science, and public affairs, drawing content from WTIU, WFIU, and their digital platforms.

Magazines

Bloom Magazine
Format: Print Magazine
Coverage: Features on local people, businesses, arts, food, and lifestyle. Prints six times per year.

Limestone Post
Format: Online Magazine
Coverage: In-depth stories and features about arts, culture, social issues, and community life.
