The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County was established in 1990 to encourage and manage philanthropic support for the long-term benefit of the community and all those who call it home.
Today, we have more than 290 unique funds – each with its own defined purpose as stipulated by the inspired donors who provided the resources to create the funds. Each year, distributions from these funds are returned to the community in the form of charitable grants to local nonprofits and other exempt organizations like schools, churches, and governmental agencies.
Community Foundation grants fall into a few categories, including:
- Proactive grantmaking
- Grants awarded through competitive granting programs
- Donor advised fund recommendations
- Agency designations and distributions
The Community Foundation has granted more than $50 million dollars back to this community in the last 30 years. At the heart of everything we do is a vision to create a vibrant, equitable, and inclusive community where every individual has the opportunity to thrive — now and in the future.
