About the Community Foundation’s Reducing Unsheltered Homelessness Leadership Initiative

In December 2024, the Community Foundation was awarded a Community Leadership Implementation Grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through the eighth phase of the Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VIII) statewide initiative.

For this initiative, the Foundation is collaborating with local partners to advance evidence-based strategies to reduce Monroe County’s population of individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness through increased case management, street outreach, landlord engagement, and other homelessness diversion and prevention efforts. Included as part of this five-year effort is:

  • Capacity building of Heading Home of South Central Indiana, the coordinating entity for reducing homelessness in Monroe County.
  • Funding for case managers with local partner agencies.
  • A pilot housing stability income supplement program for employed families at risk of losing their housing.
  • Matching funds to grow the Housing Security Endowment Fund to sustain housing stability solutions in Monroe County.
